The constant movement of time, and the change of culture and attitudes that it ushers in, necessitates a renewal of language (amongst other things), i.e. the ways in which we articulate sacred ideas such as Bhakti.

Be that as it may, Bhakti, like other Sanskrit words assimilated into the western lexicon, has become metaphysically impoverished; stripped of its deep articulations as painstakingly voiced from contemplatives and sacred literature so that it might readily be available for mass proliferation.

Foundations of Bhakti seeks to understand those deeper articulations so that in our attempts to renew their meanings, we might circumvent the stripping of their meaning worthy of the accusation of cultural appropriation.

In this installment, we’re covering śri Rūpa Gosvamin 7 definitions of bhakti as articulated in his magnum opus Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu. This short series is a welcome addition for those on the sacred path of bhakti.
